Hi everyone! Happy to be back in America and have some time to process and debrief the past nine months. I can’t believe this season is coming to a close.
Honduras
Honduras was really difficult for me. It stretched me physically and mentally. I had a lot of anxiety attacks and wanted to go home many times. It was only by abiding in the Father and fixing my eyes on Him that I was able to finish.
We lived there for almost six weeks in tents on a farm in the mountains. During our time there, the Lord continually showed me the simplicity and gravity of the Gospel, especially as we went into homes where many people had never heard the GOOD NEWS. John 1:1–18
The Lord kept reminding me that Jesus is the true light that shines in darkness, and that darkness cannot overcome Him.
Honduras Culture
The mountain villages in Honduras felt spiritually heavy. There is so much poverty, abuse, incest, and brokenness. Many young girls become pregnant through abuse from family members such as uncles, fathers, or brothers. It was truly heartbreaking.
In this culture, it is believed that once a woman gets her period she is considered unclean and cannot read the Bible. There was also such a striving mindset within parts of the Christian community there, which was difficult to navigate and frustrating at times.
At the same time, it showed me even more how desperately people need the freedom and truth of Jesus.
House Visits
House visits were our main ministry while in Honduras. Most days we would walk miles up the mountains to visit homes, build relationships, and open the Word together. We mostly visited women and children while the men were away working.
I loved getting to see people receive life as the Word of God was shared. We saw hope and freedom begin to come into homes. We were also able to bring Bibles during our visits, and many people in these mountains had never owned or even read a Bible before.
What a gift it was to watch people receive the very thing that could change their lives. Seeing children captivated by His words and watching true childlike faith begin to sprout was so beautiful.
Replacing Fear with Perfect Love
While sharing the Gospel in homes, the Lord reminded me of who He is: perfect love.
As it says in 1 John, perfect love casts out all fear. Many of the families we visited lived in deep fear, whether from sexual abuse, physical abuse, or generational brokenness. It was such an opportunity to bring the good news that there is a replacement for fear and it’s free. When we let Jesus in, we exchange fear for the perfect love that casts out all fear.
“There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear”
1 John 4:18
B4A Women’s Event
All of the girls got to help host a women’s event where women from the community were invited to the farm. As they arrived, we cared for their children and babies while showing them love and attention.
We washed their feet, braided their hair, painted their nails, and simply made them feel seen and special. We got to reflect the Father’s love for them, a love many of them do not experience daily.
By the end of the event there was so much joy. It was beautiful getting to watch these women be cared for and loved so intentionally.
Kevin
One of my favorite relationships I built was with a neighbor named Kevin. He is 10 years old and was always at the farm hanging out with us. We mostly communicated through Google Translate, and Ryley would always play Uno with him.
Now we all text him! He is one of the most joyful kids I’ve ever met.
The Girls at Lunch
Almost every day we would eat lunch at a pavilion near the front of the property, right by the road. Kids walking home from school would always pass by, but there was one group of sisters who regularly came and sat with us.
Those moments were so pure. We would do our best to communicate with the little Spanish we knew. Sometimes they would show us their homework, and other times I would braid their hair.
They became some of my favorite moments in Honduras, simple, sweet, and full of joy.
Thank you Lord for a season of trusting you deeper and abiding in you even more!
